Ignition is required for an engine to work. Failure of ignition would prevent the engine working.

It could be a faulty gauge, a faulty sensor, or a wiring problem. What engine do you have in what year car?
Could be, A very high mileage/worn out engine, The PCV system not in working order,
Blower motor not working: could be the electric motor, or A fuse, or A short. Blower motor working: could be low engine coolant, or A stoped up heater core, or loss of vacumme to the inside of the car from the engine, or A bad water pump, or A bad thermostat.
Could be a fuel delivery problem such as a dirty fuel filter.

Could be but probably an engine problem.
Could be a failed engine coolant temperature sensor. Easy enough to replace and not too expensive.
When purchasing a used engine, I would have a certified car person check the engine so that you know 100% if there is anything wrong with it. Some used engines could be perfectly fine, while others could be badly damaged.
