The Allies took over local government functions after the war and then appointed locals to run the government. In all honesty, the far majority of people, both Allies and German where sick of fighting and wanted the war over so they could all go home to their families. Some hard core groups tried to continue but they got no support for the reasons I mentioned. People where sick of war and killing by the time 1945 rolled around
