Not likely. But you would get a big spark putting the cables on the battery. Sounds like you have a short, or bad altenator, battery
If the battery is showing ! mark means, you need to charge the battery immedaitely and some of the applictions may not work at this point for E.g your camera flash will not work to take any pictures. In some mobiles music,games,even phone calls can not be done at this point.
It shows that your battery is in workable condition and your alternator is charging as it should.

Have the blackberry torch and when I put it on charge a lightning bolt shows up on the battery when its done charging the lightning bolt goes away!

that means you need to charge it using the mains adaptor that came with the phone. you must of used it too much so every now and then you need to charge it or it wont work..
I take usually it to O'Reilly or Autozone and they do it for free. If my car won't move, I have a battery/alternator tester (which only shows if the alternator is putting out a good amount of voltage/amps).

What voltage battery are you referring to? An automobile battery is 12 volts and a fully charged auto battery should read 12.6 volts.
