Some of the reasons that there could be a noise under the hood when pressing the gas follow:
it sounds like the belt is breaking
A loose belt is the most likely culprit, when you press on the gas all of a sudden the engine will respond quickly but a belt driven component like the alternator will give resistance thus causing the squeal.
Hello, my suggestion would be just opening the hood when the noise goes on. Try to locate where the noise comes from. I have similar problem with my Taurus 2000 SE. It occasionally makes the noise somewhere under the hood. I sent the car to pep boys today. they were not able to locate the noise because it was quiet . so i have to wait until the noise goes up again and open the hood and see.
This be a wide range of things does it make the noise when the vehicle is in park and you rev up the engine ? It could be a heat shield on the exhaust system. it does not make the noise if it is just idling....but if you press the gas it makes a noise and when ur driving it makes noise. But I had to put a flang where the header conects to the exaust cuz it was leaking and i thought that was where the noise was comin from but its still makin the noise.
Under the front hood.
Sounds like a loose or worn belt
Check the heat shield.
press the gas all the way down when stopped if that dose not work press gas down hard for a while and press the brake hard (watch out you might flip!).
if you turn the key and nothing is making noise check the battery if you are trying to start it and it is making noise press the gas a little bit so that the car can pump gas into the engine
remove gas cap , then under hood on the fule rail thhre is a small unit that looks like a tire valve cap remove it and press down on stem , where eye protection
It's not under the hood it's under the car on the left rear driver side near the gas tank.
If the popping noise happens when you let off the gas, it is probably a backfire caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust cycle. Advancing the timing can remove the noise, but possibly at a loss of power While you are under the hood of the engine check plug wires
