When you put a CD onto the IPod it puts the tracks on individually and not in the album Why?

On normal CDs of a band or a single artist, it will (should) group all the songs, but on a compilation it'll put each one separate, if you buy from iTunes I'm not sure, but I would think, unless you buy each song separately, that it would group the songs as an album
