Does the starter and alternator work together to charge a 1995 Windstar van?

Well not the starter. The starter is used to start spinning the engine and draws its power from the battery. The alternator uses the engines belt to recharge the battery and to power the cars electronics as well as lights. When you shut the engine off, the power then draws from the battery.

Why would my gauges go crazy and your 2001 ford windstar not start?

I had the same problem, also it would run but when it was hot, it would not start until the engine cooled down. my alternator was putting out 12.2 with no load, drew down to 11.9 with load, not dead but poor output. Changed the alternator and the problem went away.

How do you get the alternator to turn over?

The alternator is run by a belt connected to the engine. When the engine is running the alternator is turning. The alternator is what produces the electrical current that charges the battery & powers everything electrical while the engine is running. the battery is mainly to start the engine.

Should your car start right after changing the alternator?

If the battery is fully charged and the starter is working properly it will turn over and start. The alternators sole purpose is to supply voltage to the vehicle and battery when the engine is running. When the engine is not running the alternator has nothing to do with starting the engine. If the alternator went bad and the battery was discharged then you will have to charge the battery before it will be able to start the engine. Do not jump start the engine with a dead battery if you can avoid it. This puts a strain on the alternator trying to recharge a dead battery and can damage the alternator, even a new one.

When an alternator is bad what happens to your car?

The battery will run down and he engine will stop. You will not be able to start the engine. The alternator keeps the battery fully charged.

What cause alternator not to produce power to start engine?

The alternator produces power to charge the battery. The battery powers the starter to turn the engine over.

Will a car start if the alternator is going out?

It will start if there is enough charge in the battery to turn the engine over. However if the alternator is weak then the battery will not be charged fully.

Were is alternator on polaris 400 sportsman?

Is an alternator and a starter the same?

No, and alternator generates DC current. A starter just uses DC current to start the engine.

Will car turn over if bad alternator?

Yes, as long as you have a fully charged battery and good starter the engine will start even if the alternator is defective. The engine will run until the battery looses it's charge, which it will. if the alternator is bad.

How do you know if your alternator is not working?

Car won't start... engine can turn over, no power.
