When you start up your mac g5 it is stuck on the opening screen with the grey apple logo and will not go past that Is it a hard drive problem or something else anyway to fix it?

You can try inserting the Mac OS X installation disc and restarting the computer while holding down the C key. This will boot the computer from the installation disc allowing you to check if the hard disc is damaged with the Disk Utility available from the Desktop menus that load. If not a hard drive problem it may just be a corrupted Mac OS X file that will require reinstalling the Mac OS to fix.

I have had the same problem myself, could be the ribbon cables loose to the screen or could be something else, first thing I would do is reload the machine 2 or 4 times, that would steer you in the right way,if it did not cure the problem you would know the screen is the problem.
