Well, they are no longer useful because modern weapons make the castles of old obsolete. We currently have weapons powerful enough to completely devastate an old castle, and everyone inside it. Or even bunker-buster missiles that could probably be adapted to pinpoint a specific area of a castle and take out a target located there. It would take a lot of resources, time, and effort to build a castle, and it simply is not worth it when the enemy can just bomb it into dust.
As to no longer being needed, we obviously do still have warfare in modern times, so they could still provide some (very limited) benefit. Some people still do employ underground bunkers to try to safeguard important personnel and/or resources. For example Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was captured hiding in a small underground bunker not too long ago (ok, mostly a hole in the ground). And supposedly the US President has access to at least one personal underground bunker (not sure on how factual that is, but I would not doubt that at least one such bunker was built during the Cold War). And in World War II above ground bunkers were also often employed to try to give fortified positions a better chance to hold, as well as some fortified walls (e.g. the Maginot Line). Many more underground military installations were built during the Cold War, one was even built into the Cheyenne Mountain. That's about as close to castles as we usually get in modern warfare.
Medieval castles were needed for safety because they protected people from invaders and other dangers. Castles were also built to defend from danger. They were equipped with high walls, murder holes, cover for soldiers, and more.
william needed to keep control so he made motte and bailey castles these were not good enough against invasion
He no longer needed a base in North America. (apex)
Medieval castles.
Castles were nearly all built by powerful lords or kings. In most places, the lords needed permission of the monarchs to build castles. In some times of unrest, a large number of unlicensed castles were built, and these became a problem for the kings because they could be used in rebellions. Some castles may have been built by people who were not lords. In some cases, we know who built a castle, but not what that person's title was or how that person got the power or authority to do build a castle, because the records of the times are lost. For example, we do not know how Frederick von Staufer got the power he needed to become engaged to the daughter of Emperor Henry IV of the Holy Roman Empire, but we do know he was powerful enough to have a castle at the time.
They had outlived their usefulness and were no longer needed
There are different reasons as to why castles became palatial. One main reason is because castles were no longer needed for defense, therefore were turned into palatial castles where people were free to visit and stay in.
Pharaohs no longer live.
Castles became unimportant when they were no longer able to protect its inhabitants. In the 15 century, artillery such as cannon balls and mortar were able to break through the stone walls.
No. It needed stone.
they needed to build them quickly because they needed to look after the land and stone castles take 10 years to build. : ) Hope that helped .

Stone castles were good because unlike Motte and Bailey castles they could last longer and they couldn't catch fire as easily even though they they took longer to build. Also, Stone castles were a good source to show your religeon and how wealthy you were. Hope this helps.History is my faveourite subject at school so I know my stuff! :)
Early castles were made of wood, and were built on small hills. Later castles were usually made of stone, though when a castle was needed quickly it might still be made of wood, and some castles were made of brick.
because they held longer, lasted longer and never rotted
When feudalism swept the land. The lords and nobles needed something to protect them.
