A turtles claws arenormally in the back because they dig with there back legs and it is easier for them to dig with there back legs, like a dog. I have a turtle myself and have seen it use its claws before they are more like toes or fingers than claws. I could be mistaken because these are just my observations.

on the front claws turtles have 5 on each claw. on the back claws turtles have only 4 per claw.
