There are a few books called True Blood. One was written by Patricia Waddell, another by Shelia Holland. You are would most likely be referring to the one by Charlaine Harris (The one TrueBlood on HBO is based off of) The series isn't accually called True Blood though. It's often referred to as the 'Sookie Stackhouse Novels' or 'The Southern Vampire Mysteries'. The first one is titled 'Dead until Dark' and isn't one book, but at the current time 12 main books with several novella's/mini stories.
Charlaine Harris has also written a series about a girl named Harper who can see how people died by standing on their grave. One of the books is called grave sight and there are a few others. They are really great books, a bit creepy but a good read. She also has a few short story compilations including other authors. I personally have not read any of them, but I imagine they would be interesting. Her website shows what she is currently working on. But seriously, the Grave Sight series is really amazing. (I don't know the actual name of the series though)
The author, Charlaine Harris answered this question on her website. She gave a resounding no. So, to answer your question, the author claims that Sookie doesn't become a vampire in her series.......BUT given that some things in the TV series aren't totally canon with the books, it's hard to tell. She may, she might not.
No it's not. The author behind the books Charlaine Harris, has not yet written the last two books. Alan Ball and the True Blood team does not consequently follow the storyline from the books. So it is possible that what might or might not happen between Sookie and hunk-vampire Eric in the books, will not be the same in the tv-series.
