Why does your 1999 saab 9-5 SID unit not display?
From 99-2001 the electrical ribbon that attached to the SID unit was defectively installed so over time it loosens and that's why you can't see the display. You may be able to find a dealer that repairs the unit for about $80-120.
Your infotainment system is stuck on trip computer cleared how can this be reset?
I had the same problem on '03 Saab 93 ss , i over cleared a warning message on the SID , which resulted in the "Trip Computer Cleared " message appearing , very simple fix just disconnected the battery for a few seconds and display returned to normal -reset clock and once car was moving information displayed again on fuel consumption & temp etc.... Hope this helps , Just had the same issue with my 2005 Saab 9-3. To reset the SID, remove the fuses from slots 3 and 14 on the side panel that holds all fuses---consult owners manual for precise location. Leave the fuses out for a couple of hours (I removed them overnight), and the SID display will reset....two hours or more is important, nothing happens if you simply remove the fuses and immediately replace them......good luck!

Some independent Saab shops have purchased used computers from Saab dealers and may be able to help. == == the check engine light will come on as a function of mileage since the last time it was reset. I don't remember >exactly< how to reset it so it doesn't come on each time you start the engine, but I do remember it has to do with using the "clear" button on the SID. I think you hold the clear button down, and after 4 or 8 seconds it will change it's mode and display...but keep holding it down and a few seconds later it will actually clear and reset the 'check engine' light. Sorry I don't remember what mode the SID display should be in to start the clearing process. (I just bought a 1996 SAAB 900 convertible a few months ago...had the check engine light start coming on, did some web searches and came up with this solution...which I partially remember. :{)
