Smart people research at-home jobsScammers have websites that advertise at-home jobs, and then get you to follow a link that supposedly has information about a legitimate job. They then ask you for money with promises to ship start-up kits. Legitimate companies do not charge job applicants fees. Also, if you see an advertisement stating that the business opportunity is risk-free, run for your life! Of course business opportunities are risky; you are taking a risk on it turning into something successful. Nobody can guarantee success. Success requires hard work and dedication, not empty promises from scammers looking to take your money.
Never send in money to get a job. Beware the marketing strategyIf a company's marketing strategy is to appear legitimate, most likely it is not. Or, it is just a poor moneymaking opportunity. You want to avoid jobs that promote themselves on search engines and websites, as legitimate work at home companies are looking for legitimate workers like any other legitimate business. They are looking for qualified, reliable people to do the work. Screening applicants is a time-consuming process. Those casting a wide net by using Google or search engine ads are not likely very legitimate.
Caution: Speed bump aheadHere is a list of jobs you should always avoid: direct sales or multilevel marketing (MLM), pyramid schemes, anything involving cashing checks/wiring money, home assembly/envelope stuffing, product re-seller or wholesaler, stock trading systems, directories of telecommuting jobs or businesses, data entry/call centers (some are legitimate but the lure of these jobs is used to sell bogus start-up kits and other scams). Proceed with caution when it comes to taking online surveys or serving as a mystery shopper.
If you think you were scammed, report it your state's general attorney or your local authority, and do not send any money to anybody. Jobs pay you, you do not pay them.
