No the Vortman cookies were not recalled in 2012 when some peanut butter products were recalled.
I'm not sure about the wafer bit - maybe Trader Joe's or Little Debbies? There are all kinds of wonderful there :P Similarly there are Nabisco's Nutter Butters but those are sandwich cookies and not wafers.

It seems to me that there are enough war babies around that enjoyed Nabisco's Melody chocolate wafer cookies, who have children of their own who will never have the chance to enjoy that iconic cookie of their parents childhoods unless Nabisco takes a flyer and reintroduces the Melody cookie, even for a short run. I still see Mallomars on the shelves and I think it would be easier to bake a wafer cookie that follows today's trend of "retro" everything. Just one man's opinion, but they sure were good with a cold glass of milk any old time of day. Don Tomback, Parkland Fl.

around the late 1990"s when Nabisco started making them. They were using them in late 1967
I know when I sold Girl Scout Cookies in the late 70s the cookies had a vanilla wafer in them. Not sure when it changed to the brown cookie it has today. We had them in the 1950's.
