J Stevens Arms Company has been making rifles since the 1890s. There are dozens of different models of Stevens bolt action .22s. If you repost with all markings on your rifle, we make be able to narrow it down a bit. sorry-
That will depend on whether you are shooting short, long or long rifle ammunition.
Retail it's worth about $150 or $160.
Yes it will as well as 22 short and long rifle, but the rifle will only shoot the 22 LR shells as a Semi auto and the shorts and longs you will have to manually cycle the gun by hand
My Springfield model 83 ( J Stevens) is stamped 22 Short, Long and Long Rifle on Barrel. If yours is as well, then yes, it would fire LR rounds.

The rifle will shoot .22lr .22 short, and .22 long. Only .22lr will cycle the action and load the next round. .22 Short and long will function as bolt action only.
You sure it doesnt say '44 Shot' instead of '44 Short'? The .44 Shot cartridge was a popular small bore shotshell before the introduction of the .410. email@example.com I'd suggest a trip to the library. Find the Standard Catalog of Firearms and look at the listings for Stevens. Your shotgun is probably a smoothbore version of the Tip-Up, Ideal, or Favorite rifle.
What model? firstname.lastname@example.org
The 84C generally brings $50-$100 in typical condition. email@example.com
Please include the model number and serial number if it can be seen to get a accurate age to your rifle.

All firearms that are in caliber .22 Long Rifle (LR) or 22 Long or 22 Short are rimfires. If you look at the face of the bolt, you can see the firing pin. If it is in the very center of the bolt face, it is center fire. If at the edge of the face, it is rimfire.
