One way to be sure is to get under the vehicle and look at the transmission identification tag. The tag or stamp can be found on the housing, if you have access to a Chiltons manual it shows a picture of the tag as well as identifiers for the transfer case on 4wd models. If your Comanche is an automatic it is an Aisin Warner AW4 four speed automatic. If it is a 4 speed manual it is also an Aisin Warner.
