under the rear seat,
The chassis number of a 2001 VW Jetta can be found in the owner's manual. It can also be requested from the dealer.
The third digit of the chassis number will be the year of manufacture. For instance, if the chassis number begins 390xxxxxx, then it's a 1970 model year
Down by the river
you will find this in the boot of the car.. maybe on the underside of the boot carpet above the spare wheel
on the engine bay or bottom left hand side of the windscreen as you sit in the car.
depends on the year, most are either in the spare tire well or under the back seat ( 1996 - 2005 years ) with Volkswagen the Vin code is not the " chassis " ID that is required for performing an alignment or ordering certain parts
Call Volkswagen and give them either your chassis number which is found on a metal plate in the engine by (It will be obvious) or your registration number and they will be able to supply you with the pant code. I just did it. :-)
The one closest to the radiator.
1974 VW Beetles don't have VINs, but rather serial numbers. There is a number for the chassis, and one for the engine. DMV wants the chassis number. The engine serial number is stamped into the case, just below the alternator stand. The chassis number is in three places. The easy one is in the lower left corner of the windshield. There's one on the transmission tunnel under the seat, and a third on a data plate in the engine compartment.
The VIN number is the same as the Chassis number. For a 1964 it should be located underneath that Back seat. Its the main Metal part that is directly in the middle of where the seat sits. You might have to clean the area, but it will have the Chassis number on it. It will be a 7 digit number.
The chassis number is written on the tunnel under the rear seat. The engine number is written on the crankcase under the generator. Then check these numbers against the VW list (theres one in John Muirs book). You probably also have an import plate that's behind the spare wheel.
