I have a 385.19150090 model. Is there a on/off switch or do i have to have the foot controller to stop/start .
You need the foot controller to start and stop the machine.
If you go to managemylife.com and imput your complete serial number, you can download your manual for free.
Your power cord and foot controller are available for sale from Sears online but the foot controller is expensive at about $63.00. You might want to check on ebay or some of the online sewing machine parts merchants to see if there is a less expensive generic one that will work.
I doubt very much you will be able to get one at any store. Possibly at a sewing machine repair store. -I've had reasonable success finding old or unusual manuals on the internet, -have you tried that ?
Answer two:
Go to your local Kenmore supplier or your sewing machine repair shop and ask. They will be able to supply what you need.
managemylife.com
Check managemylife.com for Kenmore 385 manuals.
go to http://www.managemyhome.com On the right side of the page is a section for finding manuals. Enter the make and model number. You can order a manual, or download one free as a pdf file. Mary :)
Where can I get a free manual for my Kenmore Serger Model 385 16644690
You can download the manual for 385-81524, which is almost the identical machine except that it has one extra stitch feature from this site. It costs $5.99 and is 61 pages at Sew Consult (link below).

It depends on the model of the machine. If the bobbin is a top loading drop in bobbin, it's probably a class 66 bobbin. If the bobbin case is down below on the front of the machine, and you take it out to remove the bobbin, it's usually a class 15 bobbin. If you have your manual, it should tell you what bobbin you need. If you don't have your manual, go to managemylife.com, enter your model number. and you should be able to download your manual. On the newer kenmores, the model number is on a plate on the back of the machine, and will start with 385. and continue on. You need to enter the complete number. Bekhat
We have been told the Kenmore sewing machine model 385-1778180 is 30 years old. I purchased my 385.1778180 Sears Kenmore sewing machine new at Sears in 1988.
Kenmore products are made by many different companies depending on the product. For example, Kenmore sewing machines are now and have been for several years made by Janome. These machines have the prefix 385 in their serial numbers. As for LG, I have no idea.
singer That isn't correct. Kenmore machines with the 385. prefex were made by Janome who still makes the kenmore sewing machines today. The 148 prefex machines were made by White.
Yes. I bought a walking foot for my machine. I found it at a quilting shop.
