If by 'upgrade', you mean updated maps, then head off to your BMW dealer with a bunch of money to put down for the new DVD navigation disc. That simple. If you mean change it to the better iDrive type Nav, then not possible, I'm afraid.
You will have to contact the manaufacter of the Navigation and they can send you the disc for free.

To update infinity navigation cd G35 2004, open the glove compartment and eject the old disc from the dvd-ROM. Then put in the yellow disc and let it run for about 3 minutes. An audible beep will indicate that update is done.
It has been announced that the DVD release will be April 22, 2010.
it means that there is no disc in the DVD player
A DVD drive is an input device. A DVD or DVD-ROM disc can be read by the DVD drive. A DVD or DVD-ROM is a disc capable of storing large amounts of data on one disc the size of a standard Compact Disc.
It's in the trunk. Look on the upper left side and you'll see a spot that sticks out. Remove the cover and you'll see the DVD player where you can remove the navigation disc and put a new one in.
