Answer

Try getting a haynes manual. They are awesome, a must have for the backyard mechanic. www.haynes.com

I just finished doing head on a 90 240sx. I was raised on Haynes Manuels and I promise you there is no manuel. I had to write my own. I found there are two types of engines for this 2.4 litre. I compiled all my information from the Public Library, the Nissan Dealer. On line, and feeling my way, making my own diagrams.

Felpro makes an excellent retrofit gasket for this application. Follow the provided instructions, but also use a thin coat of High Temperature RTV on both sides of the gasket prior to assembly to maximize sealing. Valve cover and head surface must be clean and grease free, and the cover must bolted down before the RTV sets to seal properly. Replacement is a simple bolt off/on operation and shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to do.

I would suggest you check follow the instructions in either a Chilton or a Haynes manual. There you will find illustrations of how the assemblies should look as well as specifications and instructions that will lead to a successful brake job.

I bought mine at Walmart - not much more than $10. Yes it works. I used it on my son's 1990 Malibu and 21,000 mile later it is still working. It saved me a $1,000 repair. Follow the instructions on the label.

your head gasket is probaly blown.

Just unbolt it and pull it out. Then replace the gasket and reinstall the bolts. If you have a V6 there is a cover that goes with it. On the 4 cyl. You might find it easier to remove the manifold cover.

Hey Allan===It depends on what engine you have but both are probably the same labor wise. You really need guidance and the best is to get a manual from a parts store and it should have pictures and everything. GoodluckJoe If you buy an Edelbrock, they come with instructions... Best tip is to insure a good seal, using gasket sealer. The front and rear are known to leak from not enough sealer....and make sure to use a torque wrench, tightening in order and to specs. Recheck and retorque if necessary at next oil change. Good luck!
