The Pit Bull was a game dog originally used for hunting large game. The ears were cropped due to the fact that big ears make handles that can be torn and cause bleeding. AS for the "Fighting" you are way off base. Cropped Ears arent commonly found on "Fighting" Dogs as it leaves the ear opened and exposed which can lead to infection.
