Yohanan ben Zakkai was a Jewish Rabbi who negotiated with Vespasian to preserve the Jewish Religious Authorities at Yavne during the Roman Siege of Jerusalem. John the Baptist was a simple, but intelligent man who took it upon himself to baptize people, as was Jewish custom in those days.
