• a fourth hijacked airliner, attempting to reach an unnamed target in Washington DC, the US capital, was taken down by passengers who had become aware of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. This fourth plane crashed in an open field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
