William Henry Gates III (Bill Gates) was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle Washington. His father's name is William H. Gates Sr. and his mother's name is Mary Maxwell. Bill Gates grew up with an older sister, Kristianne, and a younger sister, Libby. When Gates was around 10 and 11 his parents got worried about how he was behaving. He was often seemed bored. That's when they enrolled him in Lakeside School. He did amazing in all his subjects. Then a computer company offered to give computer time to the students. That's where Gates got interested in computers at age 13. He met Paul Allen when he was a senior at Lakeside School. In 1970, at the age of 15, Gates and Allen made a business called "Traf-o-Data" which is a computer program that checked the traffic patterns in Seattle. The company's net worth became $200,000 because of their hard work. They both wanted to start a company but Gate's parents wanted him to finish school and become a lawyer. Gates soon graduated college in 1973 and a 1590 out 1600 on his college SAT. Gates and Allen then graduated to Harvard University, where Allen dropped out after two years and went to work for Honeywell, and then Gates joined Allen in Honeywell. That's where Allen showed Gates an ad for Popular Electronics magazine showing an Altair 8800 mini-computer kit. They contacted the company and said that they were making a BASIC software to run the Altair computer, but they mainly wanted to know if they were interested in developing that kind of software. They were and the head of MITS asked them for a demonstration of the software. Then both of them were hired at MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems), a software company, when they created a BASIC software to run on the Altair computer. They left MITS, and Gates and Allen formed a partnership they called "Micro-Soft" in 1975. The name is a mix of micro-computer and software. Microsoft started out slow by selling their BASIC computer software for the Altair computer. Then Microsoft started writing and selling software in different formats for other companies. Microsoft started off slow, but in three years Microsoft grossed to $2.5 million dollars. Then it soon became one of the most popular software companies in the world, and is now worth $72.7 billion dollars
