Confucianism originated in China in the fifth century BCE, at the same time as Mohism, Daoism and Legalism (Hundred Schools of Thought). The philosophy advocates benevolence and courtesy among people. It promotes the value of sacrificing our personal interests for the good of others and advocates the virtues of loyalty, filial piety, integrity, and "harmony while maintaining disparity" in culture and thinking. While not really a religion in the same way as Daoism and Buddhism, Confucianism is often associated with ancestor worship. Disciples may also follow Chinese folk religion, and may even combine these with Daoism and Buddhism.
