Ezekiel was the prophet to the Jewish exiles in Babylonia.

ANOTHER ANSWER:

Actually, Ezekiel is still speaking today... around the world. This world is mostly unaware that the nation of Israel stayed separated into TWO HOUSES or KINGDOMS: the House of Judah[the name Jew is a foreshortening of Judah, the royal head of the House, along with Benjamin, the Levites and smatterings of stragglers of the other tribes, like Simeon] and the House of Israel [made up of the vast majority of the twelve tribes; with Joseph {Ephraim and Manasseh} at the throne of the House].

By the time Ezekiel and the House of Judah went into Babylonian captivity, the House of Israel had been long removed approximately 150 YEARS from their land to the North of the Southern Jewish Kingdom and scattered and/or enslaved among the Gentile nations around them.

So, while God commissioned Ezekiel to witness to ALL OF THE TRIBES in one capacity or other: "...'I send thee to the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL [all the tribes]...'" (Ezek.2:3)...

...He also sent him to THE HOUSE OF SCATTERED ISRAEL; to whom Ezekiel in his lifetime DIDN'T DO:

"And He said unto me, 'Son of man, GO , GET THEE UNTO THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL, and SPEAK WITH MY WORDS unto them... But the House of Israel WILL NOT HEARKEN UNTO THEE, for they WILL NOT HEARKEN UNTO ME: for ALL THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL ARE IMPUDENT and HARDHEARTED...'" (Ezek.3:4-7).

"...'go, get thee to them OF THE CAPTIVITY, unto THE CHILDREN of My people...'" (verse 11).

By Ezekiel's time BOTH HOUSES WERE NOW IN CAPTIVITY. The Jews would return to their land 70 years later... but the House of Israel NEVER DID!

So, Ezekiel was able to reach some of his people there in Babylon in captivity with him; but he was never allowed to leave:

EXCEPT for the WORDS WHICH HE WROTE DOWN IN THE BOOK OF The Bible that bears his name today:

"...when I looked, behold... a BOOK... and in it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe." (Ezek.2:9-10)

"Moreover He said unto me, 'Son of man, EAT that thou findest; EAT THIS ROLL [scroll, book], and GO SPEAK UNTO THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL... Son of man, GO, GET THEE TO THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL, and SPEAK WITH MY WORDS UNTO THEM.'" (Ezek.3:1-4)

It's THESE WORDS, given to him by Jesus Christ [the Creator God of the Old Testament, who made ALL THINGS - see John 1:3], by which Ezekiel STILL SPEAKS AND PROPHESYS TODAY to the scattered children of Israel; or to ANYONE ELSE whose hearts are humbled and not hardened against it.

"...to this man will I look, even to him that is poor [humble] and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My Word." (Isa.66:2)

Ezekiel still prophesys from every direction of the four corners of the world.

Ezekiel was a priest in the temple at Jerusalem towards the end of the monarchy in Judah, and was then deported to Babylon, where he wrote his book and preached to the exiled Jews. The theme of the Book of Ezekiel often changes dramatically from chapter to chapter, returning in a later chapter to a previous theme. Some of the symbolism is obscure, and some of it extremely offensive to modern readers, such that much of the vocabulary, especially in chapters 16 and 23, has been toned down in English translations.
