When Poland was invaded by Germany in 1939 there was already an agreement between Poland, France and Britain that if Poland was attacked the other two signatories would help.
Mr. Chamberlain sent a message to the German government stating that if they did not stop their attacks by a certain time, then a state of war would exist between Britain and Germany. Of course, there was no reply.
