He was born in Asia Minor in the third century and lived in Myra, Lycia. A son of wealthy Christian parents, he was very religious his whole life. His parents died in an epidemic while he was young, so he was raised by an uncle. He was called on by Constantine to attend the First Council of Nicaea. There are many legends associated with Saint Nicholas.
