Jackson was shot at the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA on May 2, 1863. His left arm was amputated. Jackson was then transported to the Chandler plantation close to the battlefield. He contracted pneumonia and died within eight days of being shot. Robert E. Lee stated when Jackson was shot that "General Jackson has lost his left arm, but I have lost my right." He is buried in Lexington, VA.
