The Crimean War took place between France and Britain on one side and Russia on the other, and was fought over who had control of Christian holy places in Palestine (then ruled by the Ottomans, who are now called Turks).

The Crimea is an area which used to be an area of Russia in the Black Sea, but is now part of Ukraine, where the main battles were those of Baklava, Alma, Inkerman and Sevastopol, and also in the Ottoman Empire, where the main battles were at Sinop, Istanbul and Varna, which are now located in modern day Turkey and Bulgaria.
