It's not "Montezuma's revenge" but "Moctezuma's Revenge". The legend tells that before he died, ''Moctezuma, second to last "Mexica" emperor, curse all Europeans for the centuries to come, so they'll get sick once they step on Mexica empire's land. This is obviously just a tale, but Mexicans found it fun enough, so when a North American or European tourist comes to Mexico and gets stomach sick because of the spicy food, we tell them they have the "Moctezuma's revenge.
