It depends on the age we are considering; for example, the Greeks we see in the Trojan wars, also called Aqueians, are provenient from the mycenic empire, which flourished from the ancient mynoic civilization. However, the Greeks, for instance, that lived in the 6th century b.c., were the culture that eventually defeated mycenae, and whose origins are uncertain. It is guessed that at a certain time there was a grand migration coming from the northeast which may have started in Syberia, and having had contact with the Hindu culture, absorbed some of its caracteristics. This new population installed itself in Greece, having coexisted with the original inhabitants for some time. But eventually their cultural advance became clear (for instance, they controled iron technology, while the others only had bronze technology). These invaders are now called Dorians. These remnants of the mycenic empire who managed to stay are called Jonians. Those who were forced to migrate built many cities around the Aegean, of which the biggest was perhaps Corinth.
Hello I am Rhodri. M (I did not write the above) I am doing a study on the ancient Greeks one of my questions are "Were did Greeks originate?" and i am having trouble answering it, if any one has information on this question please send me a e-mail on robmack@kinect.co.nz thank you.
Like all myths, they originated as stories to explain the unknown and teach morals. Natural events were personified as gods, eg Iris, goddess of the rainbow. If you were wondering if the Greeks based their myths upon earlier religions, then I don't think so.
Greeks originated from a place now known as lesbos in a area now commonly known as Greece. Lesbos was also where homosexuality started.
