Earthquakes tend to occur at or near the boundaries of tectonic plates.

Earthquakes occur at all three types of plate boundaries, however the largest earthquakes tend to occur at convergent and transform boundaries. The earthquakes at divergent (also known as constructive) boundaries tend to be smaller.

Where the tectonic plates occur.

User Avatar

Earthquakes can occur at any type of plate boundary, but the most powerful earthquakes tend to occur at convergent boundaries and at transform boundaries.

Britain is effected by earthquakes. However because Britain is not near a tectonic plate boundary, the earthquakes that occur tend to be low in magnitude.

usually almost all earthquakes have happened at morning but some occurred at night so yes

The lithosphere is where earthquakes occur.

Volcanoes tend to form at convergent tectonic plate boundaries where subduction is occurring (such as the western coast of South America) and at divergent plate boundaries where two tectonic plates are moving apart (e.g. the Mid-Atlantic-Ridge and Iceland). Earthquakes also occur at convergent boundaries and in fact these tend to cause the strongest earthquakes. Earthquakes also occur at transform boundaries (such as the San Andreas fault) however these do not tend to cause the formation of volcanoes. So to find volcanoes and large earthquakes you should be looking at convergent plate boundaries where subduction is occurring.

Depends on the areas. Although most earthquakes occur near plate boundaries. Earthquakes occur when tension is released from inside the crust. Plates do not always move smoothly alongside each other and sometimes get stuck. When this happens pressure builds up. When this pressure is eventually released, an earthquake tends to occur.

earthquakes occur on subduction plates

Earthquakes occur everywhere. In many places they are too small to detect or feel, but the tectonic plates are always moving and there are small earthquakes all of the time occurring all over the world. More earthquakes and larger earthquakes tend to occur on larger fault lines. Check out the links to see where they mainly occur. Shows that they mostly occur on major fault lines along the edges of the tectonic plates.http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/http://ds.iris.edu/seismon/Regions on solid rock tend to have few or no earthquakes. One earthquake of magnitude 5.5 in May 1909 was recorded in North Dakota making North Dakota one of the few areas with the least number of earthquakes in the US. In addition, Iowa, Maryland, Vermont, and Wisconsin also are in the group of states with the fewest recorded earthquakes.

Yes. Earthquakes tend to occur repeatedly in the same areas, usually near the boundaries between tectonic plates.

User Avatar

why do earthquakes occur at subduction zonez

User Avatar

Earthquakes occur at all plate boundaries.

User Avatar

No. Earthquakes can occur well away from plate boundaries . Such earthquakes are called intraplate earthquakes.

User Avatar

Earthquakes do not have a season in which they occur more frequently like hurricanes do. Earthquakes do however occur more often when their is a full moon.

User Avatar

Earthquakes can occur anywhere in the world, hence meaning that they can, and do, occur in any and every biome.

User Avatar

Earthquakes occur due to the movement of the tectonic plates on the earth's crust

Most earthquakes do occur on fault lines.

User Avatar

Yes that is generally where most earthquakes occur

earthquakes usually occur at tectonic plate boundaries

User Avatar

Earthquakes do not occur in the asthenosphere because it is molten and lacks a solid layer for friction to occur. There is no accumulated force on the asthenosphere to generate earthquakes.

User Avatar

Most earthquakes occur at the boundaries where the plates meet. Less than 10 percent of all earthquakes occur within plate interiors.

Earthquakes tend to happen at or near plate boundaries. Britain is a long way from a plate boundary so does not tend to experience many earthquakes, and the vast majority of earthquakes that do occur are only recorded by seismometers and are too small for humans to feel. However there are some exceptions to this. For a list of earthquakes in the UK and their consequences, please see the related link.
