Ancient Egyptians believed that there was a vein that ran directly from the your fourth finger on your left hand all the way to the heart. This came to be known as the "love vein." Ever since then, it has been tradition to wear your engagement ring on your "ring finger" (the fourth finger on your left hand).
When you eventually get married, your wedding ring goes on the same finger, but goes on first and then is topped off by the engagement ring.

∙ 8y agoWoman wear their wedding rings on their left hand ring finger and so do men in most of the Western World. Although in Europe they are known to use the right hand finger next to the pinky finger. The reason escapes me.

∙ 6y agoMostly for America at least I can say on the finger that is between the pinky and the middle finger of your left hand. I say put it in both your hearts. Sure that materialistic item is perfect for letting everyone else know off limits he/she is taken but, for yourselves you need not to have a reminder of such a devote commitment.

I don't think that there is a rule against it, but it is not common. Wearing a wedding ring generally means you are married, so it would be misleading to wear it if you have not yet had the ceremony. As for the engagement ring, many woman will only wear it until they are actually married, at which time they change to the wedding ring. But some women like their engagement ring so much that they wear both the wedding ring and the engagement ring together even after they are married.
