He started an investigation that led to a large amount of CUNA Mutual documents being discovered about CUNA's claim handling procedures. These documents were admitted in federal court, in a trial ending June 12, 2009. The court entered judgment of $6.2 million including penalties assessed against CUNA Mutual for bad faith claim handling. Teri Powell died before the trial took place.
