The tag that identifies your automatic transmission on a 98 contour is located on the side cover of the transmission. This is the transmission valve body cover and it is on the left side of the trans (side that is closest to the front of the car). It will be a sticker that will have a bar code and a series of letters and numbers. I think there is also another similar tag located elsewhere on the unit but I dont recall where. It is important to find trans with same code if plan is to swap out with another unit. Ford idiodically tossed a few different cd4e transmissions in same year cars that had minor differences in electronics and axle ratios. This means your car's computer will get conflicting info sent to it and will react by sending improper signals back to your trans causing a list of probs. Good luck to you. Steve
The is a build sheet sticker either in the glove box or on the driver's door post with the code. You can call the dealer and he will tell you what you have.
THEIR ARE COUPLE OF MODELS FOR THAT YEAR,YOU NEED TO GET THR NUMBERS OFF THE TRANS ID TAG--OR HAVE THE DEALER RUN THE VIN ON THE COMPUTOR
You can identify whether or not your 1997 Ford Explorer has an overdrive drum sensor by looking at the identification tag on the transmission. The identification tag will list the overdrive drum sensor.
The serial number of your 350 Turbo transmission can be found on the transmission. The transmission should have a specification tag. The tag should be on top of the transmission.
on top of transmission. just below the air intake tube. usually a white tag. part number should look like ****-7000-**
You will need to get the Tag number then go to provided link and look her up. [http://www.drivetrain.com/tagtokitconvfordtrk.html What Ford transmission do I have, Toyo-Kogyo, Maxda M5R1, M5R2, Mitsubishi, FM145, FM146]
If the transmission is the original in the vehicle, then the factory id tag will have codes to tell which transmission was installed. Depending on the year and type of the transmission, there will be a tag or stamp on the transmission to indicate the model.
On the body tag, usually on a doorpost.
yes you can use the engine if you use all brackets, mounts and exaust manifolds that came out of the car that your puting the eingne in. the transmission may fit check tag numbers to verify the transmission is the same because ford used mor than 1 transmission in these years
there should be a tag on the case or it should say on the spare tire cover in the trunk
The VIN# when pulled up at the dealership should give you all the information that you need about your vehicle including the type of transmission. Also there is a numeric tag that is attached to a bolt on your transmission that will give you this information to.
Look on the side of the transmission housing. There will be a manufacturer tag on either the right or left side of the transmission. That will give you the manufacturer and serial number/model number of your transmission
