It depends on where you are. But police headquarters in your city is the best place to start, since that's likely where whoever needs your criminal record will go. Call and ask them where to go. Usually for about 15 bucks or so you can get a background check on yourself. If you really want to be thorough, you should call each criminal division of your local court houses. If criminal offenses are divided into misdemeanor and felony offenses and one department handles felony and another misdemeanors in your jurisdiction and you have at least one of each, you may have to go to different court departments. However, you should be able to get that information from the court, either for free on a computer generated list or for a small copy fee. Either way, it's public information from the courts. But, like I said, whoever needs your background check will likely only go to your local police headquarters, which is why you should concentrate your efforts there and pay whatever fee they require for a background check, which anyone can get.
