Power Steering fluid is poured in the power steering pump's filler hole. If you have the hood open and are looking at the engine, this is on the lower right side of the front of the engine behind the cooling fan. If your '85 caprice is equipped with air conditioning, the power steering pump will be below the compressor which is to the top right of the front of the engine. It is easiest to access the pump from the driver side of the engine.
Steering fluid should only be added when necessary. A filler cap is on top of the power steering pump and it has a dipstick attached. See if the dipstick shows any fluid on it (while the engine is cool). The dipstick has an "Add" arrow on it and shows when it is necessary to add more fluid. Add a small amount and screw the filler cap back on. Take it off again to check if the level is now where it should be (the cold mark). If not, add a bit more and repeat the process.
It is important to not overfill the pump, and that is why it is necessary to slowly add more and more fluid in small amounts until the level is correct. Keep in mind that it may fill faster than you may think.
Plain old power steering fluid.
At the power steering reservoir, the same place you check the level.
You either need power streering fluid or a power steering belt.
low on power steering fluid or the pump is bad
use Dextron 11 or 111 transmission fluid. it works well in power streering
Chevy Caprice power rating for that year was 170hp.
Honda have there own power streering fluid. Just go into any part store and ask if it does not say Honda don't use it
it should be on the passanger side to the right/front of the oil dip stick whics is right by the headers
Are there any hoses that go to the rack&pinion? If not, you don't have hydraulic assist steering.
You should be able to use any power steering fluid in the auto parts store. Actually there is no power streering pump or fluid in a G6's because it is all interal, built into the transmission.
Yes, not a good think. Your power steering will not properly and because of lake of lubrication it will die. You need clean power steering system of brake fluid. It's not hard to do but just tricky.
165 hp
