Pull aff ac bracket and the wire will lead you there

The compressor should be removed with the bracket that holds it and then removed from the bracket once out of the engine bay. There is a small bracket that mounts on the front underside of the clutch that needs to be removed first (two bolts and one stud) then four bolts and one stud for the main compressor bracket.

You need to remove the accesory bracket from the engine. Powere steering pump, ac compressor, alternator and then the bracket. Then you can get the pump out. Not a lot of fun.
A little, the ac pump will put a draw on the engine more than without the ac on.
I do believe it's located immediately by the crank, which you can reach by removing the AC bracket, pulley bracket, and timing belt cover, which are all located on the front of the engine. You will see a wire harness connected to it leading to the top of the engine.
I just rebuilt a 1990 G20 van and had a plate just like you are describing, mine went under the motor mount bracket that bolted to the block, but i only had one on the drivers side.
It depends on what heads and ignition system you're using. You'll have better luck with AC plugs in a Chevy.
