timing should be set with chip disabled(curb idle)
Chip's Challenge - 1992 VG was released on: USA: 1992 (PC version)
first fish and chip shop in essex in 1992
there should be power pack coils and cam and crank sensors rather than a distibuter and timing is computer controlled the only way to adjust it would be by changing a chip.
timing is computer controlled there is no way to advance or retard the timing without changing the chip in the computer
October 1992.
Yes your wires will hook up and no you wont have to change the chip either. the wires will hook up but if it is a tbi you do need to change the chip or it will run lean because the timing of the fuel dilivery for the 305 is longer than the 350 and you will run lean so the chip needs to be changed to change the timing of the pulse.
add intake chip from eBay and put an exhaust.
you can get a computer chip for it and install it and that resets all the engine functions such as timing etc.
Computer controlled If you have a 3.0 you can turn the distributor to adjust, after you pull out the adjustment chip.
I have a 1996 F250 4x4... to set the timing you have to first remove a chip out of a harness clip, mine is up by the firewall on the 1996 (I have a 1989 too and the part you remove on it is right by the distributor). On the '96 you look where the harness goes through the firewall, under the brake master cylinder.... there will be a clip with a rectangular grey chip in it.... the chip is about 1inch x 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch. You take that out and the computer quits trying to control the timing... then just do a regular timing job... mine is 10 degrees BTD. The timing chains on these are known to stretch and my timing was off by 10 degrees with 140k on the motor. Talk about improved performance!
Chip lived in a foster home in Pennsylvania before he was mysteriously transported to Ohio in the book "Found" by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
