In order to be a writer you have to write.

It's as simple as that. You don't need a special degree - just take a few English classes so you know how the language works, then start reading and studying how successful authors do it. You might take a creative writing class if you want to, but you don't have to. Practice makes perfect.

1. English. 2. Everything else. --A writer. If you want to become a writer, you are logically dealing with words. Therefore, it is best to study your native language -- become an English major let's say. A curriculum which teaches you the mechanics of your language, guides you through the reading of classic works of literature, and workshops writing of your own is ideal. Stephen King in ON WRITING says to read over 70-80 books a year (which includes listening to books on CD and audio tape). This is pretty good advice.
