honest, brave, and determined
In the book "Dovey Coe" by Frances O'Roark Dowell, the story is set in the fictional town of Indian Creek, North Carolina. Dovey Coe and her family live in a small house near the town center, surrounded by farmland and forests. The nearby presence of the creek and the mountains contributes to the rural and secluded atmosphere of the story.
Parnell Caraway is a cruel man who has his heart set on Dovey's pretty sister, Caroline. He hates Dovey and absolutely despises her deaf brother Amos. One day when Dovey falls unconscious, she wakes up to find him murdered. The rest of the book is Dovey's murder trial. He, therefore, is an excruciatingly important part of the book. I hope I helped and didn't give away too much!!
In 1928, Indian Creek, North Carolina, USA.
In chapters 6-9 of "Dovey Coe," Dovey struggles with her feelings for Amos Legrand, whom she believes caused her brother's death. She confronts Amos and learns about his difficult past, leading her to question her assumptions. As Dovey grows closer to Amos, she starts to see him in a new light and begins to understand that things are not always what they seem.
Dovey somehow aleady knew by the way amos was acting the he had killed him. she figured that amos had left the grandparents house to go look for tom and huck(huck left to go find tom) when he saw huck outside parnells store he went in looking for tom and went to look in the back room after looking everywhere else and saw parnell about to strike Dovey and somehow killed him(i forget) later on dovey was reading her book and found i note that said, something like this: dovey i did it, i just had to..he was about to kill you
