The river is formed by the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers at Point State Park (called the "Point") in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It joins the Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois.
The native Americans considered the Monongahela to be the same as the Ohio and the Allegheny as a branch.

Five. The Ohio River starts in Pennsylvania, then goes through Ohio, West Virgina, Kentucky, Indiana, and ends in Illinois, where the Mississipi River begins.
There is no river that begins in Canada and ends in the gulf of Mixico. (NOTE: The Mississippi River begins in Minnesota, USA.)
The Ohio River borders Kentucky and Ohio. The Licking River also starts on the Ohio River and runs through that state of Kentucky.

The Great Miami River starts in Logan County, Ohio. It then flows southward through Dayton, Middletown, Hamilton, joining with the Whitewater River in southwestern Hamilton County. It empties into the Ohio River at the Ohio/ Indiana state line. There is also a river called the Little Miami River which starts in Clark county, Ohio and empties into the Ohio River in eastern Hamilton County, Ohio.
