Its Atalanta and she isn't a goddess. She was a baby who was abandoned by her father, the king, and found by a mama bear who had just lost her cubs to hunters. Later in life she was found by some hunters and raised like a human but she was always wild. When she was older she lived in the woods, hunting and surviving off the land. Eventually she found her father and he made her marry. Her one condition was that he had to beat her in a race. Men from everywhere came for her hand in marriage. She was very beautiful with blond hair in Greece where most everyone has brown or black. she killed them all until this one guy called Hippolyta. He sprinkled golden apples in the way and he won her hand.
I agree. Atlanta was never, and will never be a goddess. The story is her father abandoned her, where she was taken in by a mama bear who had lost her cubs. She was raised with the mamma bear until hunters came, and found her. She was raised with a fisherman until he was killed by robbers. Then she killed the robbers, and went back Into the Woods. She joined the hunt for the Boar that Artemis sent to terrorize a country, and Atalanta started to fall in love with the prince during the hunt, but he killed his Uncles in a fight over the fact that she won the skin, and they didn't like it, so when his Mom heard about this she burnt up the piece of wood that was his lifeline, so he died. Atalanta who was heartbroken fled to the woods, but her father, the King heard about this. He went to collect her, and wanted to marry her off a prince. She agreed to this, but she said she would marry on her terms. So she created a race where she would only marry a man who could beat her, but if she caught up to him, she would kill him. No one succeeded until this one Prince. He knew he couldn't beat her, so he went to the temple of Aphrodite, where the Goddess gave him apples, but after he won he had to sacrifice lettuce. So while they were racing, he threw the apples at her, and they were blessed with love so Atalanta stopped to pick them up as he threw them. He won the game so they got married, but the Prince forgot to sacrifice lettuce to Aphrodite so she turned them too lions.
There is NO Greek goddess named "Atlanta".
Perhaps you are referring to the Greek heroine, Atalanta?
Atalanta lived in the forest, abandoned by her parents. She was found by a group of hunters, who raised her. Atalanta became a strong and fierce warrior, once defeating 2 centaurs who were threatening her.
Atlanta isn't a person but Atalanta is. However, she had royalty parents and married only someone who could beat her in a race. She was beaten by her husband who she loved very much even before the race. If he didn't succeed he would be b-headed.
