While I understand that Freon has become a generic term, bear in mind that the car will use R-134a, the newer replacement.
It's installed in the port that's part of the metal portion of the tubing that leads from the compressor to other AC components. If you have a leak in the system, adding refrigerant will be throwing good money after bad. It's better to take the car to the shop and having them evacuate and refill the system with new refrigerant which contains a dye. If there's a leak, the dye will appear at the leak. Then you have to repair the faulty component.
