Low coolant? Bad thermostat? Cooling fan not working? Water pump not circulating coolant? System airbound? Defective radiator cap? Radiator plugged or restricted?
The 1.6L engine has a single cam pulley, a water pump pulley used to tension the timing belt, and a crankshaft pulley. The pulleys are concealed by a plastic cover with a rubber seal.

The timing configuration on the lemans is on the V shaped grooves that are on the housing on the engine side and on the sprokets themselves. line them up exactly and it should be fine, I found that looking downward onto the housing while turning the sproket works best, by the way the water pump tends to move the belt when you are setting it back into place so compensate by moving the sproket in the opposite direction.

Canals can connect bodies of water, usually rivers.
yes
Presuming you have the Pontiac V8 engine, it's on the front driver's side of engine, mounted low on side of timing cover, below water pump. Power steering pump is above it, so may be hard to see. Look for fuel lines from tank exiting frame at engine crossmember on driver's side, or follow fuel line from carburetor back to the pump. Best removed from under car.
