Anywhere on the engine block or the chassis of the vehicle. Just make sure you have a good clean solid connection with metal.
EDIT: Make Sure it is a Negative-Ground car if you do this! Some 12-volt cars in the early '60's were positive ground; a lot of old 6-volt cars were, too. Google your car or get a Hayne's or Chilton's mannual if not sure. Reversing the battery will cause melted wires and destroyed diodes in the alternator, if you have one.
check make sure the neg. cable is tight, check cable for corrision in cable by flexing cable if it hard u need a cable, also check for cable tightness to connector that connects to battery. Did you hook the pos. to neg. and neg. to pos?
the battery will have a - mark on it which means neg., and the cable that is bolted to the engine block is the neg. cable, the pos. cable will go to the starter.
Depends on the car. An E30 BMW neg battery cable is about 6 inches. The neg battery cable on a Chevy small block about 2 feet.
hook 2 batteries pos to neg and 2 more pos to neg, now you have 2 at 24v and hook the 2 pair pos to neg
you'll need extra battery. take one battery at a time. hook one side to hot on a good battery. take other end and another battery hold it on hot, and then take a long screw driver and touch neg. and poss. if cable is good it will spark
Electrical isn't your strong point, is it. If you take the neg. cable off the battery then you will not measure any voltage between the neg. cable and the pos battery because there is no complete circuit back to the neg side of the battery. I would start by making sure that the battery connections are clean and secure, as well as the main connection at the alternator. Check that there is no corrosion on any of the terminals. Use some sandpaper if you need to clean them up, on the terminals and the cable connectors.
If it has a mechanical speedo, take the negative battery cable loose first then take the spedo housing loose from the speedo first then pull the cable out of the housing. Then take the housing loose at the bottom and remove the part of the cable that is twisted off. Get a new cable and install it with lots of cable lubricant. Then hook up the botton end then the top end of the housing. Hook up the neg battery cable
Try dissconnecting your neg. battery terminal and waiting a couple of minutes. Then hook it back up and see what happens. Unhook the NEG. battery cable for about 5 mins, then hook it back up and go drive the truck normal about 10 miles. That's it.
Ground it first with the negative.
disconect the neg. battery cable for 25 seconds
Disconnect the neg battery cable for 10 mins.
