Judas Iscariot's place as one of the twelve was taken by a man named Matthias. (Acts 1:21-26)

-- further --

Some have supposed that Paul was the replacement for Judas, but Paul excludes himself from the twelve in I Cor. 15:5-8. Paul was the apostle of the Gentiles (Rom. 11:13) to the Church which is Christ's body. The twelve apostles were apostles to the kingdom church, IE. the little flock. They will sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel in the regeneration. Matt 19:28. The foundation of the walls of the New Jerusalem will have the names of the twelve apostles in them. Rev. 21:14. Israel had an earthly hope. God promised Abraham that his seed would inherit the earth for an everlasting possession. Exodus 32:13. God promised King David that someone from his seed line would sit on his throne forever.

II Samuel 7:12-16. Paul did not have an earthly hope but a heavenly hope. Members of the Church which is Christ's body have a heavenly hope also. II Cor. 5:1, I Thessalonians 4:16-17.

This is recorded in the first chapter of Acts, where those remaining cast lots between two who had been with Jesus from the beginning and were witnesses of His ministry, particularly of His death and resurrection. The lot fell on Matthias.

What if Judas Iscariot didn't betray Jesus?

First of all, if he had not betrayed Jesus, Jesus would have never delivered us from sin. Second, if Judas Iscariot had not betrayed Jesus (and if someone else did), he would have probably lived to see Jesus' resurrection from the dead.

Who was Jude the braveheart?

This Jude was the writer of the Letter of Jude in the New Testament, also known as Thaddeus meaning brave hearted, courageous. He was given this name to distinguish him from Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Jesus, and who was the exact opposite, not brave, courageous, or strong in his faith. See the discussion "Indication That Jude is Judas (not Iscariot) the Apostle".

How many times are apostles mentioned in the Bible?

Apostles are mentioned multiple times in the Bible, specifically in the New Testament. The term "apostle" refers to the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus, including Judas Iscariot's replacement, Matthias, and later, Paul. The specific number of times they are mentioned can vary depending on the translation of the Bible.

Did Judas see the resurrected Jesus?

A:In Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians, written long before the first of the gospels, the risen Jesus appeared to the twelve (1 Cor 15:3-8) which can only mean that for Paul, Jesus was not betrayed by Judas Iscariot. The gospel story required a traitor, and that traitor was Judas Iscariot. In the gospels, when the risen Jesus appeared to the disciples, he appeared to the eleven. It would be inconceivable that the other disciples would have kept Judas in their midst to be seen by the risen Jesus. Now, Judas did not see Jesus.

What were the apostles names?

They were Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the lesser, Thadeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot. See Gospel of Mark 3:16-19.
