Matthew 2:1,5+6 tells us that "After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem"(NIV)(This event was prophesied in the Hebrew scriptures at Micah 5:2/John 7:42).
We do not know if there were any other babies born in a stable on the night Jesus was born, as it is not recorded in the Bible. Bethlehem was a very crowded place during this time of registration and lodging was hard to come by. But God gave the shepherds enough information to find the Christ Child in the right place.
I could find no record of Jesus meeting a shepherd. He is regarded as a shepherd of mankind. Possibly you mean the shepherds who came when Jesus was born, that was in Bethlehem.
The Star of Bethlehem is what the three wise men followed to find where Jesus Christ was going to be born. If they had not seen this star they would not have known where to go.
