Tamil is the official Language of the State of Tamil Nadu in the south eastern Region of India. Therefore the maximum use of Tamil would be seen here.

It is also a language recognized by countries such as Singapore and Srilanka.

Since Tamils have, like many other races , migrated all over the world one may hear some one taking in Tamil any where. Radio Centers in UK like BBC and China have Tamil programmes which may contain pure Tamil works.

Although it is a very ancient language it was perfected by regular conferences

held thousands of years ago where scholars met and deliberated on it's proper usage. It was decided many thousands of years ago to split it into three categories.1.Natural Tamil. 2. Tamil for music and poetry. 3. Tamil for Dramas.

The language was used by many non Tamils who migrated to South India or ruled the local areas for various stretches of time including the British. Some of the great literary works were by them. By the spirit of an old Tamil adage " All are relatives and all are of one World." a local person who speaks Tamil excellently may be one of the non Tamils by origin however will be considered Tamilian.
