the coolant temp sensor is located on a 3.9 2006 chevy impala on the right side of the engine as you are facing the car from the front just below the throttle body & look just to the left of the exhaust manifold with the heat shield on it . its on the engine block it has two wires on the connector. I had a ratcheting 3/4 box wrench that I used to remove & install the sensor its the only thing that I could get on it with without removing anything else since there isn't much room to get to it. I had to get on it from the back side under the throttle body to ratchet it off worked real well. I had a message that said hot engine turn off the a/c which I didn't have on at the time so I looked at the temp gauge & it was stuck on cold but the engine was warm but not overheating so I change the temp sensor that I got from advance auto for $16.00 & everything seems back to normal again. I checked for fault codes with my obd code reader & I had a code & cleared it out everything checks normal now.
